VACCINATION

You must submit a Vaccination Record, completed, and signed by your vet, listing the expiration dates of all county required vaccinations and tests. Currently, the only vaccination required to obtain a membership is a rabies vaccine. We highly encourage the use of our  Vaccination Record Form . Medical records from vets may list combination vaccination but may not provide details as to which vaccinations are covered in that combination. Using our form ensures your vet is providing the required vaccinations. Separate vaccination records are required for each dog on your membership.

It is your responsibility to provide updated records to the Romeoville Recreation Department as your dog’s vaccinations are updated throughout each year.

DOG PARK RULES

Please be courteous to other dog owners and familiarize yourself with the rules and etiquette information provided.

  1. You must purchase a membership each year at the Romeoville Recreation Center (900 W  Romeo Rd) to use the Wiggly Field Dog Park. Proof of current rabies vaccination is required to purchase a membership.
  2. The maximum number of dogs per adult is three (3) and all dogs must remain in the same run area with their owner. Large dogs (26 lbs. and above) are not allowed in the small run area. Owners cannot leave their dog(s) in the run areas without supervision.
  3. Dogs must remain leashed until they are inside the small or large run area. No prong or pinch collars are allowed in the run areas; they must be removed for other dogs' safety.
  4. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and not left unattended at the dog park. A parent or guardian, age 18 or older, must sign a liability waiver for any handlers under the age of 18.
  5. Dogs must display their current rabies tag.
  6. Dogs who have been deemed “vicious” or “dangerous” by the Village of Romeoville in the last 12 months will not be permitted into the dog park.
  7. Dogs who are unhealthy or in season are not allowed into the park. We recommend keeping your dog on flea and tick treatment during spring, summer, and fall. Fall is the peak time when fleas become active and are looking for hosts.
  8. Dogs who exhibit aggressive behavior or acts of dominance (including urinating on other animals or people) should be removed immediately from the park to avoid the potential for injury to other dogs or owners. Chronic or habitual offenders and abusers will lose their Wiggly Field privileges. Do not allow your dog to run to the gate when a new dog is entering; keep the gate area clear at all times so members can enter and exit without incident.
  9. Owners must clean up after their dog. Bags and waste receptacles are available throughout the park.
  10. Owners are required to stop their dogs from digging and are responsible for filling any holes their pet creates.
  11. Puppies under the age of six months are not allowed in the park.
  12. No smoking, no glass containers, no food of any kind including dog treats, rawhide, bones, & hooves, and no alcohol or soft drinks of any kind are allowed anywhere in the park. This is to ensure the park stays clean and prevents dogs from begging for food or showing aggressive behavior. There is a fountain to fill up containers and bowls at the park.
  13. No weapons of any kind are allowed anywhere in the park.
  14. No human sports of any kind are allowed in the park (rollerblading, football, baseball, bikes, skateboards, etc.).
  15. Do not allow anyone into the park that does not have an access card. This is for you and your pet's safety. Encourage visitors to pick up a packet and register to become a member. Report fence jumpers to the police.
  16. Owners are legally responsible for their dogs and any injuries or damage caused by their dog.
  17. A handler, age 16 or older, must be present at all times and is solely responsible for the actions of their dog(s).
  18. Users of the facility do so at their own risk. The Romeoville Parks and Recreation Department is not responsible for any injury or damage caused by any dog at the Wiggly Field Dog Park.
  19. Failure to comply with the above rules may result in revocation of your park membership.
  20. If an incident or injury occurs, call 815-886-2141 or 911.
  21. Memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable.
  22. The Romeoville Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to suspend or revoke park privileges to any member who fails to follow park rules and etiquette or where we have determined a member dog or dog owner is dangerous to others or is in violation of any applicable animal ordinances or regulations. Failure to adhere to any of the rules and procedures may result in fines or other disciplinary action.

INCIDENTS

Dog Park Rules, Regulations and Etiquette are designed to minimize the chance of dog incidents. Should an incident occur, the following actions are recommended:

  • Separate and leash the dogs.
  • Remove dogs to a neutral area outside of the dog park.
  • Inspect dogs for injury.
  • Exchange contact information between owners.
  • Get the names and phone numbers of any witnesses.
  • Call 815-886-2141 or call 911.

Any and all animal bites or abrasions to the flesh of a human being from the teeth of an animal are required by law to be reported to the Will County Animal Protection Services Department.  When an animal bites, the owner is required to bring the biting animal to a Veterinary facility for Rabies observation.  The animal must be placed under direct supervision of a licensed Veterinarian.

If the biting animal is currently vaccinated against Rabies, the animal may be confined at home and must be examined by a licensed Veterinarian within a 24-hour period of the exposure and again 10 days later.

If the biting animal is NOT currently vaccinated against Rabies, Illinois State Statute requires that the animal be impounded at a Veterinary facility and under the direct supervision of a Veterinarian within a 24-hour period of the exposure at the owner's expense. At the end of the 10-day Rabies observation period, if the animal is deemed to be free and clear of the Rabies virus, it must be vaccinated against Rabies prior to the release to the owner.

You are legally and financially responsible for the actions of your dog.
