Public Safety Academy
Gain a Working Knowledge of Public Safety
Each spring, the Romeoville Police Department, Fire Department, and Emergency Management Agency come together to teach the Public Safety Academy, a free, 11 week series of classes for residents age 16+ that brings participants up close to the duties of public safety. Registration for 2025 classes are now closed.
The Police portion of the Public Safety Academy classes instructs attendees on various law enforcement topics including:
- Traffic enforcement
- Investigatory techniques
- Law enforcement jiu-jitsu
- Drones
- Police K9
- TASER
- Special Weapons and Tactics
- and more.
The Fire Department will bring students through:
- Fire extinguisher training
- CPR
- Hoses
- Ladders
- Engine operations
- Use of a variety of tools and equipment
The Emergency Management Agency will cover:
- Traffic control
- Weather spotting
- Other management tactics when emergencies strike
This program will allow participants to get to know the members of these departments better and, through this personal contact, better understand how and why public safety officials make the decisions they do.
Please note: this academy will be physical!Students will work with fire hoses and climb ladders, practice jiu-jitsu and SWAT tactics, and fire off TASERs and fire extinguishers.
