The Village Board approved the appointment of Dr. Bernice Holloway to the position of Village Clerk at the Regular Board Meeting on November 17, 2010. Bernice filled the unexpired term of her late husband, Raymond Holloway, until she was elected to serve a two-year term in April 2011. She was then re-elected to four-year terms in 2013, 2017 and 2021.

Bernice has been a Romeoville resident since 2001; she has two adult sons and two grandsons. She has demonstrated her commitment to Romeoville by serving as a Planning and Zoning Commissioner, and as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals from 2006 to 2010; She served as a Board liaison to the Romeoville Senior Commission, to the Valley View Community and School Leaders Group, the Airport Road Route 26 & Interstate 55 Interchange Advisory Group, and currently as Community Service Council of Northern Illinois Board of Directors, and the Valley View Educational Enrichment Foundation Board of Directors.

Bernice brings to the position of Village Clerk of Romeoville a broad background in management, supervision, and governance of schools. Bernice holds a Doctorate and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Roosevelt University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Chicago State University and an Associate of Arts Degree from Chicago City College. She served ten years at Roosevelt University in two major roles: first as an Assistant Professor of Education in the College of Education teaching Educational Administration and Leadership courses at both the master's and doctoral levels; second as Associate Director of the Chicago Education Alliance (CEA). She worked with various partnership grants and general activities supported through the CEA, including a technology grant from IBM linking the Chicago Public Schools and four CEA partnership universities.

Additionally, for approximately 22 years in the public school system, she served in positions ranging from classroom teacher, school principal, district gifted education and curriculum director, to Superintendent of District 88 Schools.

Finally, in the area of service, Bernice has made many significant contributions to the Village of Romeoville, Roosevelt University, to School District 88, and to her academic field. She has provided professional consultation to local, regional, and state educational organizations, including the Chicago Principals and Administrators Association, the Golden Apple Foundation, and the Illinois State Board of Education.
