Backflow Prevention Devices

All irrigation systems installed in the Village of Romeoville (residential and commercial) are required to have a backflow device (RPZ Device) as a form of protection to the Village water system. Backflow devices are also required for fire suppression systems and all water lines for commercial/industrial use to protect the Village water system against backflow of any substance from the premises into the water system.  According to Village ordinance and Illinois State Plumbing Code, the property owner or occupant is required to have this device inspected by a certified licensed plumber on an annual basis, even if the system is not in service. In accordance with Village ordinance 53.30, within 30 days of the inspection, a copy of the annual certification shall be submitted to the Public Works Department.

According to Village Ordinance 53.11 (B) It shall be the responsibility of the occupant or building/property owner to ensure the required annual inspection of the backflow device is performed, as required, and a copy of the performed inspection is received by the Public Works Department. If the device requires further maintenance or replacement, this shall be handled within five days following the inspection and the appropriate documents also forwarded to the Public Works Department. When replacing an existing backflow device, please be sure to include the device serial number of the unit that was removed from service on the new device inspection report.
