Romeoville Holiday Ornaments
In 2022, the Village of Romeoville started a new holiday tradition: Romeoville inspired ornaments. Each year, some element of Romeoville, past or present, will be immortalized in a dynamic keepsake that tells the story of our community. These pieces, which are made in America, are manufactured by Beacon Design, the same company who has handled the official White House ornaments since they began in 1981.
Below you will find information on each Romeoville ornament in this line. These ornaments are ordered in a limited quantity and are not restocked once sold out. We hope these yearly pieces bring a bit of civic pride to your home during the holiday season.

2024 – Romeoville's Library
The White Oak Library District can trace its beginnings to Lockport in 1921, but the Romeoville portion of the story starts in 1967. In that year, the Jaycees, a volunteer organization, sponsored a Community Attitude Survey where 63% of residents said they wanted a library. Before it could be constructed, a new library district had to be formed, which would cover everyone living in DuPage Township. A referendum was held in 1969 and 56% of township voters said yes, so the Fountaindale Library District began.
Until a permanent facility could be built, the Romeoville library was housed in Park View School (now known as R. C. Hill). It opened on June 19, 1971, but couldn’t be accessed by the public until the school day was over. The permanent library opened in its present-day location, 201 W. Normantown Road, on June 9, 1975.
By 2006, two-thirds of Romeoville residents lived in Lockport Township and were not served by the Romeoville library. In 2008, an agreement was ironed out that united all of Romeoville in the Des Plaines Valley Public Library District. In 2010, voters in the district approved a major renovation to the Romeoville branch and in 2011 the district was renamed the White Oak Library District.
The 2024 ornament is the quintessential symbol of a library: a book. Open it up to read about some of the important moments in the Romeoville branch’s history.
The book is made of brass, finished in 24 karat gold, and measures 2.25” high by 2.875” long (3.75” when open). It comes in a green box with black lining and the Romeoville logo stamped in gold on the lid.
2023 – The First Fire Engine
From 1957-1960, Romeoville’s population had grown from 197 to over 3,500. In April of 1960, a meeting was held to form an organization that would meet the safety needs of the community. That night, the Romeoville Volunteer Fire Department was created. They took delivery of their first fire engine four months later.
The fire department was housed at the village hall until 1975 when they moved into their own building. It was located where Fire Station 1 stands today (18 Montrose Drive). As the years went by and Romeoville continued to grow, so too did the fire department. The first full-time fire chief was hired in 1990 and additional fire stations were opened in 1991 (Station 2) and 2008 (Station 3). Today, the Romeoville Fire Department implements the latest training and technology to achieve the goal they were founded upon all those years ago: to meet the safety needs of the community.
This year’s ornament is a replica of the Romeoville Fire Department’s first fire engine: a 1960 Seagrave. Details abound on this 3-D piece, showcasing hoses in the back, pump piping and a ladder on the sides, and a silver bell on the front. Engine 1 served Romeoville from 1960-1986.
Finished in rhodium silver, this brass ornament measures 3” long, 0.75” wide, and 1.25” high with a 1.25” long name oval suspended between the truck and cord. It comes in a red box with black lining and the Romeoville logo is stamped on the lid in silver.
2022 – Village Hall
In 2005, village hall was 45 years old and, even after two annex buildings were constructed, was too small for the number of staff that it needed to house. Planning for the future village hall began in November of that year. A 59 acre site along 135th Street was chosen for the new municipal center, which would combine village hall with the police station and have grounds for community events. The new setup would allow residents to make one stop rather than having to visit multiple municipal buildings to conduct business.
Construction began in May 2008 and the 118,00 square foot complex was officially opened in June 2010.
While village hall is part of the larger municipal center complex, this ornament celebrates the building as the municipal heart of Romeoville. Its iconic tower rises 60 feet above the ground, making it an unmistakable landmark in our community. The site is enjoyed year-round as the host of numerous community events. This is Romeoville’s third village hall and one that will carry our community into the future.
