The Board of Fire & Police Commission for The Village of Romeoville, Illinois, an Equal Opportunity Employer, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Firefighter, without regard to race, color, creed, gender or ethnic origin, to establish an eligibility list for current and future openings in the Romeoville Fire Department.

Firefighter/Paramedic:

Starting Salary: $74,846.20

Top Out Salary: $102,702.60

Three Fire Stations

Immediate Openings (Hiring 5 upon creation of eligibility registry)

Blue Cross and Blue Shield medical plans and only pay 12% of the premium.

Free dental, vision and life insurance (1 times your annual salary).

Starting: 132 hours annually of sick time. Max accumulation: 3,600 hours.

     Starting: 106 hours annually of vacation. Max accumulation: 336 hours.

Earn up to 48 hours of personal time annually.

Kelly day every 14th Shift and Compensatory Time.

Ability to participate in most any specialty team: Water Rescue, Technical Rescue, Hazardous Materials, Fire Investigation, as well as tuition free classes through Romeoville Fire Academy.


Must be a citizen of the United States.

Must be at least 20 years of age and under 35 years of age at the time of written examination but must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment, unless the candidate qualifies for an exemption as a veteran and/or firefighter as provided by state statutes.

High School diploma or its equivalent.

Valid driver's license at time of appointment.

Illinois licensed EMT‐P, at time of hire. Applicants enrolled in a State of Illinois IDPH approved paramedic program shall be allowed to complete the testing process. Applicants must provide proof of enrollment in the program by submitting a letter from the organization sponsoring their enrollment or by the course administrator, on their letterhead.

Candidates that do not possess Basic Operations Firefighter or Firefighter 2 certification will be sent through the academy at no cost.

Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Certificate that includes ladder climb, at time of hire.
